Iron Ore Fines

Applications of Iron Ore Fines

  • Steel Production:
      • Used in sintering to produce sinter, which is fed into blast furnaces.
      • Sintering involves mixing fines with fluxes and coke, followed by heating to form a porous mass that is easier to use in blast furnaces.
      • Can be used directly in some Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) processes.
  • Pelletization:
      • Fines are converted into iron ore pellets through agglomeration, improving their suitability for use in blast furnaces and DRI plants.
  • Export:
    • Exported globally as a raw material for steel production.
Iron Ore Fines are small particles of iron ore, typically less than 10mm in size, that are generated during the mining, processing, and handling of iron ore. These fines are a by-product of crushing larger lumps of ore or screening processes and are widely used in the steel industry.
